♥ Thank you, Thank you ♥

I started Custard Heart Vintage in November of 2009, having been recently laid off and in need of some sort of income.   I was originally planning to sell some pieces out of my own closet on eBay but  my friend Tiff highly recommended Etsy as she she was having a great time selling her handcrafted necklaces on the site.  So I opened my little Etsy shop, a little skeptical at first that it could possibly be any better than Ebay.  Things started out painstakingly slow and I never dreamed I would even see 100 sales, never mind 1000 sales,  but lo and behold, the time has arrived!   So, in celebration of this momentous occassion, the shop is having a an unprecedented 25% Customer Appreciation Sale.  Just enter the code 'ONETHOUSAND' when you checkout to receive 25% off your order.   Thanks so much for your support, whether you're  a customer or blog reader or both.   I'm going to go wipe away my tears and blow my nose now. ;)

Enter coupon code ONETHOUSAND to receive 25% off.

Yellow & Red

Yellow and red are possibly one of my favorite color combinations of all time.  Lucky for me it was warm enough on Summer Solstice to break out this sundress I bought a few months back but still had not had a chance to wear. I wore it to work at the office with this bright yellow cardigan that I thrifted a couple years back.   Sometimes I'm not quite sure what is exactly "office appropriate" (i.e., bearing your shoulders in a sundress?) so I ended up erring on the side of caution and threw on the cardigan before I left the house.  This is about as "business casual" as I can get on a hot day in San Francsico.
p.s.  These are the first photos I've taken with my new camera and I'm really stoked with the results. After using my crapadelic point and shoot for so long I was starting to wonder if it was really the camera's fault or if I was just a shitty photographer (or maybe a combo of the two)?-- anyway, a camera upgrade makes such a huge difference.  Hooray!

Lazy Hazy

Want to know the reason I look so damn smug in this picture? See end of post.
No, what you are seeing is not a mirage-- I'm actually standing in the warm SUNSHINE! We've finally started to warm up around these parts and while I know it won't last, it sure is nice while it's here. This is what I wore to Father's Day lunch on Sunday, where it actually got too hot for the jean jacket. Wonders never cease. I'm wearing one of my all-time favorite dresses, one of the many DVF's I managed to collect while working in retail. I've actually become quite a collector of her dresses, they just fit my figure so well, plus I love all the vibrant prints and colors.
Another little tidbit-- I brought a dress home from the antique faire a couple weks ago and found this real jade and diamond ring pinned into the side seam! It fits my pinky finger pefectly. Funny because two days before I was watching The Letter thinking to myself that I would love a diamond pinky ring like Bette Davis has in the movie. Needless to say from now on it's going to be my lucky ring. I'll try and get a better picture of it in another post.

'15'

We took these pics the other day when it was probably a little to late for pictures-- the wind was blowing like crazy and there wasn't much light left.  But I had to get some snaps with what I have a feeling is going to be my favorite skirt of the summer-- a pocketed denim number I got from a local Etsy seller, Nickie Fry. It was a little long so I took off about 4" and now it's just perfect.   If you haven't yet, you should check out her shop, she's heavy on the 1970s  aesthetic-- a girl after my own heart.

♥ Shop Update: Caribbean Breeze ♥

1960s vintage Sunny Day dress
This week I've been updating the shop with cool greens and blues. Colors that will go perfectly well in any summer wardrobe-- preferably worn while strolling in a Carribean beach town, or sipping cocktails in Bali. Sigh... a girl can dream can't she?

p.s. the SALE section has just expanded so be sure to take a peek and take advantage of the lack of storage space in my apartment. :)

Book Worm

no, i'm not in a giant bathroom, i'm in front of a big white house in my neighborhood-- it looks like a giant ice sculputure or igloo.
I pretty much wear contact lenses everyday and so I thought I'd give my eyes the rest for the day by wearing my glasses.  They're actually a mens pair that I found a few years ago -- I must have a big head or something because they fit just right.  My shoes are new (to me)-- a memorial day weekend present to myself via Ebay.  They are so comfortable and yet have a little heel which is the perfect height for walking and bussing it around town.

Damien took these pics after he got home from work-- now that he's all done taking the A.R.E. (architecture liscense exams), I don't feel so bad about asking him to take my "outfit du jour" pics.  They actually have a name for the spouses/significant others of the people that are studying for these tests, they call them the "A.R.E. widows".  And while I didn't feel completely abandoned, it is nice having my husband back-- he beats a tripod that's for sure!

Where the Land Meets the Sea

Someone said the other day that this month should be called "June-uary" because of all the crazy winter-like weather we've been having.  Corny, but I couldn't agree more. Though we're used to fog in June, or "June Gloom," as it's known, the daily rain we're been experiencing is unusual. Everyday the sky is a muted dark gray/blue with heavy looking clouds-- it's actually very pretty and matches the color of the sea. These were taken on Saturday right near the Post office in Pacifica that I sometimes use-- it started pouring rain about 10 minutes later and luckily we were able to duck into the coffee shop right across the street and sit and watch it from the window.

Right behind where I'm walking is an RV park and a there's bunch of apartments on the street just in front of me.  They're both literally a few feet from the edge of the cliffs.  This is the area where many of the apartments have fallen into the ocean in recent years from the coastal erosion that occurs after heavy rains.  Every 10 years or so, the sea level moves up just a little bit, as if the sea and land are arguing over who gets what.  So far the sea seems to be winning.

♥ Shop Update: Summertime ♥

The weather in S.F. has been nothing close to summer-like-- try 54 degrees and constantly threatening to rain!  No bother, I've got a summery new color story to put me in the mood for picnics and sailing on the bay(even if the weather refuses to cooperate)!   There's a lot more in this color group here

The End of the Affair

This is an outfit of favorites: my favorite seven year old jeans (that somehow always manage to fit whether they're tighter or looser at times), my favorite striped sweater and my favorite neutral flats.   Oh, and I'm holding my favorite pair of sunglasses that are more than 10 years old.  They're one of the few expensive pairs that I actually have managed not to lose (knocking on wood now).

One thing you might have noticed--I've officially broken off my relationship with bangs-- they just got too needy and I wasn't able to give them the attention they deserved.  I hope they understand.  It was nice while it lasted and we'll always have the memories.   Who knows, someday we may end up back together (yeah, we've been through this several times before and I always end up going back) ...
