A few snaps taken before our Mother's day brunch that we threw for my mom this last Sunday. It was an overload of macarons, petit fours, muffins a and scones that morning as you can see.   I took a bunch of photos before the sausage, bacon and eggs came out-- they're just not as photogenic as baked goods, you know? :)  The part I enjoy most about hosting things at my house is setting the table and arranging everything-- I can take or leave the cooking part.  Luckily I have a brother and a husband that took care of the culinary magic that day.  Hope your Mother's day was just as sweet.

This little 1960s lavender number I bought last month on my mini vacation down to L.A.  Besides the color it was the collar I fell for right away-- They just don't make collars the way they did in the 1960's anymore don't you agree?  It really was the heyday of the of the perfect collar before the 1970s sort of exagerrated things in ways that can certainly be heinous at times.  This lilac saddlebag I  bought to add a dose of spring to my wardrobe which works great especially on days when I'm not dresesed up like a giant colored easter egg. :)

Cinema Style: The Group

This was a great movie if just for the fashion alone! It was made in 1966, but it's set in the 1930s so its really fun to see the 60's interpreting the 30s: lots of long bias cut dresses, tailored menswear inspired suits and tons of great hats!  Its basically the story of a group of college girlfriends as they graduate from Vasaar and each go their separate ways against the backdrop of New York City. The film follows them through the entire decade and eventually touches on the beginning of WW II so we see a teeny bit of early 40s as well. The only two stars I recognized were a very young Candace Bergen and Larry Hagman who you might remember from "Dallas" in the 1980s (or those Hanes underwear commercials around the same time). Incidentally The Group was written by the last woman Ernest Hemingway dated before he committed suicide, Mary McCarthy.
